When it comes to the tumultuous relationship between cannabis content creators and the social media platforms they use, YouTube has notoriously pinned itself as the surprising exception. Although many platforms label cannabis-related content as a violation of “community guidelines,” the wildly popular streaming site has instead taken a far more progressive approach in responding to the cannabis community. Instead of banning accounts, the YouTube community has been known to reward popular cannabis content creators with such accolades as subscription plaques, even recommending cannabis-related videos through trending lists.
One of those trending lists that has seen an influx of cannabis content is the live stream. Through Google Hangouts, YouTube has ushered a new platform for recurring collaborative cannabis conversations, and the community has taken to this new paradigm in droves. Here are three of my favorite weekend YouTube cannabis live streams to check out.
Hash Church on Sundays With Bubbleman
Hash Church is the one-stop shop for hash hangouts on the internet. This weekly live stream hosted by Bubbleman on his Bubbleman’s World YouTube channel is the quintessential Sunday spot to be for the cannabis concentrate community. With weekly appearances from esteemed industry panelists, special guests, and cannabis educators, the wealth of valuable cannabis and concentrate-related information being tossed around freely on each show is staggering.
After over 140 episodes and counting, Hash Church remains one of the longest-running, consistent, and most popular cannabis-related YouTube live streams to-date, often hailed by other successful cannabis live shows as the standard for quality and consistency. Ranging between 2-4 hours, this show airs live on Sunday mornings. The conversation is very organic, and although some episodes have pre-ordained themes, many of the shows flow smoothly with impromptu industry discussions from the panel.
Just about every topic ranging from extraction techniques and practices to global policy has been brought to the table and discussed thoroughly. For those looking for an unprecedented wealth of knowledge from industry insiders, you’d better arm yourself with a pen and notebook before diving in to one of these episodes. This is one show you certainly don’t want to miss.
The Weed Nerd Live Show on Saturdays With SubCool420
It would be be a travesty to talk live streams without mentioning the YouTube king of cannabis himself, Subcool420 of TGA Genetics. Created in 2007, Subcool’s channel has been going strong with consistent cannabis-related video content. Along with a plethora of practically daily information, Subcool’s weekly live stream “The Weed Nerd Live Show” (WNLS) airs every Saturday, featuring a panel of knockout regulars all armed to the teeth with cannabis knowledge.
Recently, famed cannabis author and historian Ed Rosenthal made an appearance on the show to discuss cannabis cultivation and the state of the industry. Hangouts on the WNLS tend to flow informally, with discussions hovering around nebulous topics pertaining to home and commercial cannabis cultivation, soil science, organic and no till growing philosophies, breeding, and much more.
Subcool’s channel is a haven for daily cannabis hangouts, so be sure to tune in on Saturdays to watch these legends show us all how it’s done.
GrowTube Roundtable on Friday’s With Crazy Dago
In the summer of 2016, a freshly minted YouTuber named Crazy Dago decided to start a cannabis-themed Google Hangouts Live Show on his channel. However, unlike other cannabis live streams, Dago’s idea was different. He wanted to create a forum catering exclusively to the growers community. Cue the Grow Tube Roundtable. Airing every Friday night, this live show features a rockstar panel of seasoned cannabis growers (both commercial and home scale) hanging out and discussing a robust range of topics pertaining to anything and everything related to cannabis cultivation and breeding.
What makes the Grow Tube Roundtable stand out from every other cannabis-related live stream is its incredible production value. Unlike most other live streams that often operate on loose forum topics, unregulated banter, and shoddy audio/visuals, the Roundtable discussions are preplanned with conversation topics and panel guests every week so viewers know exactly what to expect before each live stream.
Furthermore, Dago and his team take great strides to endure every panelist is armed with state-of-the-art camera and sound gear thanks to the power of Google’s new Super Chat function, which allows viewers to actively submit donations to the channel during live streams. Keep an eye out for Dago and his green-thumbed Knights of the Roundtable; this is a weekly live stream you can’t afford to miss!
